3G IPHONES MIGHT NOT BE SO 3G

According to Swedish weekly mag, the Ny Teknik, the newest iPhones, which sport 3G chips might have a flaw.   Apparently, some handsets sensitivity to 3rd generation network signals are way below 3G standards.  Ultimately, this means crappy 3G connectivity (aka dropped calls and poor reception).  Forum users have claimed to do side-by-side testing with other 3G handsets and found the iPhone to be on the weak side.  Course, this verdict might be more looking at the 'bars' displayed on the iPhone screen, which isn't necessarily an accurate representation of signal strength, and more a subjective one.

GROBAG EGG TELLS ROOM TEMPERATURE

I'm not sure I'd wanna depend on a 'novelty item' for my baby's safety, but that's what the Grobag Egg is supposed to do, sort of.  The egg's color changes according to the room temperature.  It probably turns red if it's too hot in the room and blue if too cool.  Not a bad barometer for general temperature, but I wouldn't discount an old fashioned piece of mercury.

REAL WORLD CLOAKING TECHNOLOGY ALMOST HERE

I've written about this before, albeit a few year ago. But now scientists are much closer to a real working prototype that can cloak or hide 3 dimensional objects. In theory (i.e. on paper) it's totally practical to implement, when you think about it. All you really need to accomplish is a real time image of what's beyond the object and present it accordingly on the 'cloaking material'. In the past, folks have used a projector like system, which captures what is beyond the object and displays it on its surface.

The complete details about the cloaking material, which uses a mixture of metal and circuit boards such as ceramic, Teflon and fiber composite, will be detailed in the journals of Nature and Science next week.

You see, I wanted to make the 'green' in the title a double entendre, but just couldn't figure it. Oh well, screw it, but you'll get my point after you read this.

D-Link is set to release a firmware update (it's already been released in a few of their products) that'll cut the power consumption of select routers.  See, now you get the 'green' part.  The first two boxes to receive the update are the DIR-655 Extreme Router and the DIR-855 dual channel router.  It'll cut their power usage by as much as 32% and 41% respectively.  Sweet Mary of God!  Can everyone do that with a firmware update?  Or is this just simply a question of the router powering down when not in use?
